Radha-Krishna

One Gallery in Connecticut has liked this painting and wants to sell the prints of it. This is Indian mythological Lord Krishna and his lover Radha. These devine lovers are so much in love that they are not two souls, two bodies but they are one. That's how they are shown here. Krishna is associated with peacock feather, he plays flute and loves to wear yellow clothes. He is the dark one with color of dark clouds and Radha is the fair one. They are always together. Hope you like this and the little story behind it.

Life after the Summer Course at MASSART

Sorry for not posting for a long long time.I just finished a 3 week intensive course in painting at MASSART. I always wanted to do it as I don't have any formal training in painting. We were 10 people for this 6 credit course and we had a great instructor. I am full of ideas and my actual work begins now. We are allowed to use the studios for a month even after the classes are over.
I have done some new things in the class. One is blind contours. You look at thhe model/object you want to draw but not on the paper and almost meditatively you draw the lines of the shape you see without lifting the pencil/charcoal. It really helps loosen up. We did one minute drawings of the model with broad chrcoal lines called gesture drawing to capture the pose or form as fast as possible. Also for the first time I became aware of negative space around the subject and have started to see how it is important in architecture and designing furniture etc. when we did negative space drawings.
Sorry, no photos for now but will post them soon. Thanks and happy painting.

A plate and oranges

Thank you all for visiting my blog. For foil paintings I put the subject on foil and place colored paper at right angle i.e. flat to wall. The color reflects on the foil. It was real fun to paint these two, hence the name.

Quilt project

I know this is a painting blog but I am posting this picture. I have made these two designs after considering many for a small quilt which I wanted to make for a long long time. No 1 provides opportunity to have small accent pieces in the middle of a quilt. No.2 is continuous pattern. I am thinking of making longitudinal stripes and then piecing them together. I don't know when will I complete this project but here I am.

Go Sox

Sorry for hibernating for such a long time without any notice. But I am back and will be posting my small as well as big paintings and my sketches too.

Today is a start of the season for Red Sox. I don't really paint much from photographs. I prefer the subject to be in front of me. But in this case I have painted from snaps and I found it easier this way. Hope you like them.

Continuing the chain

I think, first time I visited Stacey Peterson's blog at Blank Canvas (http://slpeterson.blogspot.com/), it was the day of her pay forward post. I got lucky and recieved this lovely painting from her. When I actually got it I realized the differnce between looking at somebody's painting on a website and looking at it in a gallery. I was thrilled to see the subtle colors and the fine texture of her small 6x8 painting. What an accomplished artist considering she has not recieved a big formal training to be a professional painter! I am not great at taking fine pictures and hope this shows the texture and colors properly.

You can click the link to see Stacey's paintings if you have not already seen them. They show majestic beauty of mountain peaks of her region.

If you are the first to comment on this post you'll get my artwork. If you are not the first, do not worry, I want to do this several times a year. What a fun. Thanks for watching.

Face 2

I am tagged by Paulette from Becoming a Renaissance Woman ( http://becomingarenaissancewoman.blogspot.com/) and I am supposed to write five things about myself.
1. Good or bad but big cities, high rising buildings and great skylines don’t inspire me. I look towards nature for inspiration. Increasing encroachment of man on nature worries me. It is constant source of my anxiety.
2. I am a vegetarian. I am trained to be an Ayurvedic consultant (Ayurveda is ancient health science of India which talks about Right Way of eating and behavior according to seasons and also treating illness accordingly). I use this knowledge to eat right and cook healthy (though Ayurveda is not about vegetarianism).
3. New thing I learnt in last 2 years is scrapbooking. My scrapbooks are for my three year old daughter. Whole world revolves around her. Scrapbooking is my way to cling to all these sweet years when we both are still close to each other. Ya, she will fly away when her wings are stronger.
4. I have always believed that you get what you contemplate. That only means that if I fail in doing something I had actually programmed myself to fail. That means I can’t blame anyone for my failures and also that I am shaping my future.
5. I have recently decided to paint fulltime. Big decision. Big commitment.
That must be the biggest post ever.
